19 Aug 2010:

Such a fantastic experience to conduct opera!! The critics gave us 6 on the dice, and praised us in all newspapers:
Nordlys 10 augusti 2010:
9 July 2010:
What do You do when You really fell like having a holiday, but have to learn 537 pages of Carmen Bizet?? Just bring the score out to the sea and enjoy both the sun and this beautiful music!! Will be very exciting to do this, my first opera. in Norway in August!!
7 July 2010:

Very happy over Editor´s Choice in the Gramophone for my Dvorak CD on BIS!
5 July 2010:

Sunset at my Peninsula Valudden
3 July 2010:

The legendary Trombone Player Radegundis Feitosa was tragically killed in a car accident on the 1st of July. Radegundis was a great friend and a wonderful trombonist and human being, and the whole trombone community will miss him enormously!! Along with him was the trombonist Roberto Angelo Sabino, 41, Adenilton Frana, 26, trombonist of the Orchestra's Young Simphony of Paraiba, and folk singer Luis Benedito, 69, who was father of a member of the Youth Orchestra. Below a description of some of what Radegundis Feitosa ashieved with his trombone:
Radegundis Feitosa held a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in trombone performance from The Catholic University of América of Washington D.C., U.S.A(1991), a Master of Music degree from The Juilliard School, New York, U.S.A (1987) and a Bachelors of Music Degree from Universidade Federal da Paraíba(1983). Born in Itaporanga, Paraíba, he studied with Edmilson Pinto and joined the Filarmônica Cônego Manoel Firmino do Colégio Diocesano D. João da Mata, under the direction of Severino Ferreira. During undergraduate years he studied with Prof. Jacques Ghesten, principal trombone of Orquestra Sinfônica da Paraíba. During his graduate studies (DMA and MM) he studied with Dr. Per Brevig, principal trombone of the Metropolitan Opera House in New York. He was awarded several prizes in national and international competitions such as Sulamerica/Jovens Concertistas Brasileiros and the Jovens Intérpretes da Música Brasileira/Funarte and the East & West Artists for debut in the Canegie Recital Hall in New York, U.S.A. He has appeared as soloist, chamber and orchestral musician in several important venues in Brazil, U.S.A and Europe. He developed an intensive pedagogical activity in the Departamento de Música of the Universidade Federal da Paraíba and in several music festivals in Brazil. He was the founder president of the Associação Brasileira de Trombonistas, the principal trombone of the Orquestra Sinfônica da Paraíba, trombonist of the BRASSIL (Brass and Percussion Ensemble) and of the BRAZILIAN TROMBONE ENSEMBLE.
29th of June Valudden:
First dive of the year at the Valudden cliff!!
27th June 2010, holiday!!!

What a beautiful end of the season!! I got a chance to experience one of the most beautiful places on earth, a stunning hotel in Provence where we were invited to a magnificent lunch by the maire of Croix Valmere and the Festival. What an experience!!!
26 June 2010 Croix Valmere, South of France:

Östgöta Wind Ensemble is a fantastic group! We had a wonderful opening of the Festival Croix Valmere in front of a huge and enthusiastic audience. Programme was Tchaikovsky Capriccio Italienne, David Trombone Concerto, de Falla El Amor Brujo, and Gerswin Fantasy by Örjan Faalström. Encores: A Christian Song and Csardas by Monti. Standing ovation!!
24 May 2010 Linköping:

My time in Cologne was euphoric!! The Gürzenich and I became friends for ever!! They are great, and we made magics in Allan Pettersson Symphony no 7 as well as in Helikon Wasp and Schubert C-Major Ouverture. Tomorrow I am off to France with another orchestra, Östgöta Wind Ensemble, and then HOLIDAY!!
Kölner Stadtanzeiger 21 June 2010.
Appearance of the multi-talent
Christian Lindberg shines with Gürzenich Orchestra
It was a night of musical transformation, inspiration and imitiation that Christian Lindberg presented to the audience with the Gurzenich Orchestra. the amusing Swedish mulititalent digged deep in to the crate of novelties, mixed it with desolating moments, but put all this together in a very humoristic way. The audience in Philharmonie gave him huge ovations.
Also Allan Pettersson writes music with great respect for history and tradition, but what Lindberg does out of the lust to play, is for Pettersson existential distress....in his Seventh Symphony here performed by in a totally grandios manner, could one feel every part of his pain, lament and desperation in a way that reminds of Schostakovich and Mahler. It was a capturing concert.
Kölnische Rundschau 21 June 2010:
Christian Lindberg in Cologne presents a colorful blend as well as sympathetic self irony. The agile Swede is full of surprices... the audience could admire Lindbergs art of directing and tromboneplaying straight from the front. No nuance of his highly virtuosic instrumental performance was lost, and in his conducting, he managed to lead in a casual-prezise style. A colorful mixture, then, with a sympathetic touch o irony and self awareness, that gave the whole thing high entertainment value.
After the break Lindberg undertook a complete change of character, when he as conductor presented a very exciting and sophisticated version of Allan Pettersson 7th Symphony. Gone was the entertainer and there was an artist bringing out chromatic lines, disturbing screams and painful shattering from a composer born in the Stockholm slum in 1911. And the Gurzenich orchestra let this 45-minute passionate piece take a compelling shape
18 June Cologne:

Having a great time in Cologne! Gürzenich Orchestra has a brilliant marketing department, and actually managed to get me in on the first page of Kölner Rundschau, the major newspaper here! Culture is treated with respect in this country!! We have now finished the original rehearsals, Pettersson Symphony no 7 is coming along beautifully, as well as Schubert and Helikon Wasp. Tomorrow dress rehearsal.
16 June Cologne:

Exciting to work again in the wonderful Kölner Philharmonie, this time conducting Pettersson´s 7th Symphony. On the programme also the beautiful Overture in C in Italian style by Schubert and my own Helikon Wasp. Concerts 20, 21st and 22nd of June. The Gürzenich Orchestra, as alway, a joy to work with!!
13 June Beijing

A fantastic concert hall, and an incredibly enthusiastic Beijing audience!! I was a bit nervous to do Peking Opera aria "Cursing General Caocao" with costume change in the most prestigeous concert hall in China, but the audience really clung on to the performance! I felt very happy afterwards, and it was wonderfully memorable days in Beijing!!
7-8 June Riga ---- 9-14 June Beijing

After two days of meeting with ministers from NB8 (the 8 Nordic and Baltic countries) where we are trying to launche a classical music festival it is time to go to Beijing!! A long but nice flight in a comfortable SAS chair. Performing in the Grand Theatre in the wonderful New Arts Centre with the Taipei Chinese Orchestra!!
5 June Stockholm Marathon we made it!!

8 months ago Christian Davidsson, the great bassoonist, could not even jog for 2 minutes!! Yesterday he and I ran 42 km side by side and finished together 25 minutes faster than limit time for Stockhom Marathon. This is an ashievement from Christian Davidsson which is quite spectacular in my opinion!!
4 June Norrköping:

WOW what an orchestra!! In less than 17 hours(effective recording time) we managed to put TWO frantically difficult Symphonies by Allan Pettersson(no 1 and 2) on tape this week! Norrköping Symphony Orchestra are really professional, and can concentrate 100 percent when it comes to reality! Also, the tonmeister Martin Nagorni did a magnificent job!! Tomorrow Stockholm Marathon!!
30 May Norrköping:

Ready to start recordingPettersson Symphonies no 1 and 2 with Norrköping Symphony Orchestra I am looking back at a great evening in Sundsvall! Standing ovation both in Sundsvall and in Arizona where Panda in Love was broadcasted live with Fiber Optic Transmission. The review was splendid:
Christian Lindberg is an accomplished composer and "Panda in Love" turned out to be something more than a tuba concerto. It was a true adventure of sounds, a jungle of impressions where the panda sings, plays and falls in love with a deep, hearty voice over a great landscape of sonorities. Here was beautiful and original melodies, imaginative orchestration and a tonal language which, although modern, was carrying a deep harmony in which everything fits in with each other.
We knew that Öystein Baadsvik is one of the world leaders on his instruments. With his big tuba, he gave the panda a varied personality, let it crawl, walk, dance in triumph, go marching, run with majestic power and cry silently at night. His vibrato is as sound and solid as a warm mediterranean evening, and his panda was not at all a clumsy! It was rather a magnificent and majestic animal, with shiny fur and natural plomb, one that spoke with power. And the concerto was the highlight of the evening.
Susanne Holmlund, Sundsvalls Tidning 28 Maj 2010.
26 May Sundsvall:

What a Tuba player!! Öystein Baadsvik is premiéring my highly virtuosic Tuba Concerto, "Panda in Love" tomorrow, and not only does he play it so that ones jaw drops, he also do it AT THE WORLD PREMIÈRE by memory!! It is a great honour to be a composer with such an interpreter. Nordic Chamber Orchestra also plays fantastic this week in the Tuba Concerto, as well as in Bach Brandenburg Concerto and Beethoven second Symphony.
25 May Sundsvall:

Beautiful morning 6 o´clock jogg around Sidsjön in Sundsvall. This is my last week as chief condctor of Nordic Chamber Orchestra, and even if it feels fantastic to go on to Arctic Philharmonic Orchestra with double the size and three times as big budget it feels melancholic to leave this wonderful orchestra! We have had 6 fantastic years with brilliant international tours and recordings that have been praised internationally by the critics. Looking forsards to the ending party after the concert on thursday.
24 May Stockholm-Sundsvall

Up at 6 o´clock to take the train to Sundsvall. Rehearsing with Öystein Baadsvik and Nordic Chamber Orchestra at 12.30 my new Tuba Concerto "Panda in Love", Beethoven 2 at 3.00 and Bach Brandenburg Concerto at 5...puuuh...wish I had an extra free day up my sleeves...
23 May Stockholm:

Arctic Philharmonic Orchestra looking for Marketing Director who works closely with director and principal conductor. Interested? For more info go to www.noso.no
22 May Leaving Innsbruck

It was two wonderful concerts here in Innsbruck! A city with 130 000 inhabitants filled the 1500 seat hall twice!! The atmosphere was great and the audience was really warm and receptive! Looking forwards a lot to next week with the world première of my tuba concerto "Panda in Love", Brandenburg Concerto no 3 and Beethoven second symphony.
20 May Insbruck, Austria

Wow! Coming back to Sibelius 1st symphony again after some years was a magic experience! He is such a genious Sibelius, and Tiroler Symphonie Orchester played fantastic, in a congress house that had great accoustics and a completely full house. Looking very much forwards to yet another concert tonight at the same venue!
18 May Innsbruck, Austria

Finally got my luggage!! Having a great time with the Tiroler Symphony Orchestra. Sibelius 1st symphony is not easy (3rd and 4th mmt) but there is great atmosphere and the orchestra is willing to work! Horns play great in Helios overture and there is a really good feeling when we rehearse Helikon Wasp! By the way...Innsbruck is a fantastically beautiful city!!!
16 May Concertgebouw Nijmegen, Holland-Innsbruck Austria

Concert ended 4.30 in Concertgebouw Nijmegen, taxi straight to Schiphol Airport , almost missed the flight, when arriving in Innsbruck luggage was lost!!!!!! Still not found...will have to rehearse Helikon Wasp from memory...luckily scores to Sibelius 1 and Nielsen Helios was in hand luggage!
15 May Apeldoorm, Holland:

What a fantastic new concerthall they have in Apeldoorm! In this hall the orchestra really got back what they deserve. It was a beautiful evening and a wonderful audience! Thanks a lot Apeldoorm! I particularly liked the electricity in the last movement of Sibelius 2, but also Helios and Sandström was excellently played by the orchestra!
14 May Arnhem, Holland:

INSTANT STANDING OVATION FOR SANDSTRÖM DOUBLE CONCERTO!
What an evening! Echoes of Eternity, commissioned by the 2000 year old Roman city Caceres received its Dutch première, with solo trombonist of Concertgebouw Orchestra, Jörgen van Rijen at my side. Sibelius symphony no 2 after the interval also received a standing ovation.
12 May Arnhem, Holland:

It was such a thrill to start rehearse Sandström´s new trombone concerto with Jörgen van Rijen, solotrombonist of the Concertgebouw Orchestra !! Jan Sandström has done it again! His piece Echoes of Eternity was commisioned by the 2000 year old roman city Caceres, and it is not only a tour de Force for me as conductor/trombonist together with solo trombonists of orchestras around the wolrd, it is also a fantastic piece of music!! Dutch premi`res will be 14th of May in Musis Sacrum Arnhem, 15th of May in Schouwburg Orpheus, Apeldoorm and 16th of May in De Vereeninging, Nijmegen. I also conduct Nielsen Helios and Sibelius 2 on the programme.
10 Maj 2010 Stockholm:

Tough days...to the left at 9 May 17.00 in Stockholm Concert House doing The Song by Stenhammar, to the right 10 May at 9.30 in Musica Sacra, Holland, rehearsing Het Gelders Orchestra in Sibelius 2nd symphony.
8 Maj 2010 Stockholm:

Yes we do have Camels and Elefants in Stockholm City...hm...it was rather surrealistic this morning when I took my 12k morning run: At Gärdet I was suddenly five meter from Camels and Elefants!! Circus Maximum were letting their animals free, and they seemed absolutely calm! Today will be my last day home for a long time...going to Holland for Sibelius 2 and Sandström Echoes of Eternity, then Helikon Wasp and Sibelius 1 in Austria.
7 Maj 2010 Stockholm:

A long day! After running 12 k practicing Sandström "Echoes of Eternity" for Holland next week, planning for Riga Resonance, composing for Woodwind Quintet and reading Allan Pettersson symphony no 2 I had rehearsal from 15.00-21.00 conducting 130 singers, 4 soloists and orchestra in Sången by Stenhammar. Puuh...fell asleep immediately...
2010-09-03 Dear Lindberg, I have two questions about your legato technique. If you have to play a passage in the middle register like: G-A-Bb, how do you tongue these, if you do, because its hard to hear on your recordings. Second, if you can naturally slur some passages of, say a legato scale, will you then tongue those anyway, for the passage to sound uniform? Thank you for your wonderful playing, you are a big inspiration for all of us! Michael Denmark Thank You Michael!! Yes I will tongue all the notes to make it sound equal!! CL
2010-08-28 Hello Mr.Lindberg, what do you think of the trombone classes in Paris with Jacques or in Lyon with Michel if my ultimate goal is to be a soloist? Xu Peng Taiwan Both those classes are great! You could also try Hannover with Jonas Bylund. The winner of "CHRISTIAN LINDBERG INTERNATINAL SOLO COMPETITION Frederic Belli is one of his students. Whatever You choose of these three will be good! CL
2010-08-26 I find interest in playing a trombone. but my difficult part is my air flow. how can i work on that? Evans Biney Ghana Practice long notes and yoga CL
2010-08-20 Mr. Lindberg, you are probably the only trombonist to record on a major label. Your recordings are my favorite! What is the microphone placing? Do you have front and back microphone? Juan Spain Thanks Juan!! It all depends on the repertoire and the hall. The trombone mikes are usually placedl 1 meter in front and above the bell. CL
2010-08-13 Mr. Lindberg when you practice Caruso method do play all exercise every day or do you practice them every day different exercise. You are my favorite player and thank you for your playing Hrvoje Celan Croatia Caruso 10 minutes every second day is enough. If you do more than that you take the risk of destroying yourself CL
2010-08-11 Hi Christian Videodiary ++++++++++ great Janet USA Thanks! CL
2010-08-04 Love your videodiary! The Helikon trio sounds fantastic. The Östgöta windensemble also. Trombone and Bandoneon is a great combination. Perfect. Hope you have a good time i Norway Lucas Germany Thanks a lot!! YES!! Carmen was a great experience!! CL
2010-08-02 Fantastic videodairy!! James UK thank you CL
2010-08-01 Dear Christian, It is very hard to keep the real trombone sound stable when practising multiphonics. Is it a matter of intonation? I found the lip note always a little flat. How you deal with this kind of skill? Best, Jimmy Jimmy UK You need to oush a lot of air through the instrument, just work on it, it was the same for me before I worked hard on it. Best of luck CL
2010-07-30 where do you think the trombone will go in the futrue, development wise? Do you think it may change in form, and thereofre its sound production as well? Rhiannon New Zealand No, I think it will stay the way it is!! Today the instruments that develope are electronic instruments, and I don´t think there is anything more to improve on a trombone. It is in my opinion a perfect instrument! CL
2010-07-29 What exactly is and accent, Im not a beginner with 7 years of playing experience yet it seems like every person I talk to has a different opinion on what it is, is the note length shorter, is it a loud to soft effect, or the note is held longer, how is in accent emphasized or when you look at one how do you play that differently than any other style? Norman USA It is only about the start of the note!! Basically a clearer attack. In different styles it is played differently. Just with the tongue, or with the air, slow or fast...that is the best explanation I could give you. Listen to how it is done in different musical examples. CL
2010-07-29 How do you work on dynamics when your playing a piece that calls for triple forte and has difficult runs and rhythms where its hard to control it, I have tried your exercise where you start soft and crescendo in eight count on a long tone but I feel that that only helps when crescendoing a note not just staying loud, so I was wondering how does a master like you practice without blowing your chops too? Emilio USA You just practice reality!! How it is supposed to be, but loud playing needs to be practiced with modesty and control. Only when warmeup up, and not too long every day CL
2010-07-29 Also what dynamic level do you use when warming up, and when you practice scales and lip slurs? Emilio USA mp-mf CL
2010-07-22 Dear Mr. Lindberg, Do you think practicing the alto trombone for 1 or 2hours a day improve tenor playing? Ilan Spain I think there has to be a balance! Alto trombone makes the high register stronger, while tenor makes the low register stronger. I would recommend 2/3 of the day tenor and 1/3 alto if You would like to play both. CL
2010-07-11 When practicing double tonguing slowly, like really slow is it ok for the KA part to sound a little awkward or different, I dont really have a concept of what its supposed to sound like slow and no matter how hard I try it still doesnt sound the same as the TA part unless I use sort of an air attack which obviously is something you dont do up to speed, when I do it slowly it tends to sometime swing a little or just sound awkward but up to to speed it sounds normal, just wondering how exactly is it supposed to sound so I can work up the something like Bluebells or the 3rd movement of Bourgeois concerto. Thanks for your wonderful help! Trevor usa You should try to sound as good as possible in slow K attacks!! That is the secret to getting a good double tongue in fast tempos!! Best of luck!! CL
2010-07-11 Back in your youth how much time did you spend on ear training, learning intervals and things like that? Craig Morrison USA I was lucky enough to have a very good ear, so not very much...however, every time you practice music in any way your ear gets stronger and sharper. CL
2010-07-10 Mr. Lindberg, How did the idea of recording the Telemann Concerto in C minor came to you? Did a performance or recording inspired you? The winter trombone is my favorite trombone CD! Oscar Peru Thank you Oscar! I used to have a vinyl with Maurice André playing the Telemann which I just loved, and that inspired me to do the transcription. CL
2010-07-10 When you had plenty of time to practice the trombone, did you prefer practicing in the morning or late at night? John U.S.A I still practice quite a lot actually, and I prefer mornings CL
2010-07-08 Hi, i was wondering how to tongue legato fast at lets say Quarter note=140 in 16ths without reverting to a hard or detached tongue and make it as smooth as possible? Is there a way to practice this, i also find that fundamentally when i sightread something that has fast passages i tend to tongue a little harder then I should, how can I break this habit? kelton usa The only solution is extremely gentle double tongue!! It is VERY VERY difficult, but just speed it up one metronome mark at a time. If you tongue harder when sightreading it is because your body is used to play with too hard tongue, or you just get tensed because it is too difficult. Practice slower then is my advice!! Best of luck! CL
2010-07-03 Mr. Lindberg, I have some bad news from Brazil, we lost the trombonist Radegundis Feitosa on Wednesday in a car accident. We dont know if you already received this news, thats because Im saying it here. He was a very important trombonist, teacher and person for all trombonists here, with a lot of contributions for the music and trombone teaching all over the country. I dont know how close was your professional/personal relation with him, but its with much sorrow that I transmit this news to you. Pedro Henrqiue de Faria Brazil I heard it yesterday!! My god what a tragedy!! He was such a wonderful musician and human being!! A great loss for the trombone community! CL
2010-07-03 Correction...the accident was on Thursday(July 1st). Sorry for the mistake. Pedro Henrqiue de Faria Brazil Yes I know! CL
2010-07-03 Hello Mr Lindberg, I just have a couple of questions, firstly i was wondering if you have ever recorded Cortege for Trmbone and Piano by Pierre Max Dubois? and if so is it available from anywhere where i could get it?? If you have not recorded it, do you know of anyone who has?? Thanks heaps. Farron Australia I am sorry, but I have not recorded this and do not know of any recording...I guess You could look for some of the french trombonists who might have recorded it. Best of luck with finding it! CL
2010-06-30 Mr. Lindberg, how do you balance running marathons and practicing/studying scores so much? Also, how did you get in to running and building up to marathons? Thanks, and I love the website/blog, not to mention the years of such inspirational trombone playing and music making. Graeme USA Thank you for this! I got in to marathon running through the principal trumpet player of Israel Philharmonic. He tought me to run slow, meaning enjoying every minute of it. You just build it up very very slowly. I try to run at least 5 days a week CL
2010-06-28 Do you always perform your cadenza when you perform David Concertino? I was also wondering if you are nervous when you play the last note on the motorbike concerto, high B... do you ever think that if you miss it it might to ruin the performance,?what do you do in situations like this? Thanks for your help Juan Peru I always play the cadenza, and I am indeed nervous when playing last note of Motorbike!! It is one of the most difficult thing in performing, to get control of notes like that. I practice the actual situation with the nerves and try to focus on positive thoughts. CL
2010-06-26 How do you work up solos that contain hard and sometimes contrasting piano parts like the hindemith and the sulek, is there a special way to practice with lets say only being able to rehearse with the accompanist 2-3 times? Cameron USA You should study the piano part so that you know it in your head as well as the trombone part. Then, if the pianist is good, it should be quite simple!! CL
2010-06-25 Mr. Lindberg...today I experienced something very unrespectful. I need some advice of you about this because I know that you have experienced so many delicate situations in your career and as a player/conductor you can understand this kind of situation in the both sides. Well...I talked to a chief conductor of a student orchestra in february to play a piece with the orchestra, he accepted and then I bought the score and gave all the material to him. Its a piece that a lot of people want to play but no one has the score/orchestral parts. Today I discovered that he will use this material that I struggled to get in a concert on monday with another trombonist!! How can I react in a situation like this? Its something that really discouraged and pushed me down. Thanks for your help! Best regards... Pedro Henrique Brazil You can not forbid anyone else to perform it, but you certainly have the right to get a performance with this piece if the conductor has promised you this. Just write a kind letter explaining the situation, and if he indeed have promised you this you should try and convince him to keep his word. Best of lukc!! CL
2010-06-23 Hi, I have been playing trombone a few years now and have gained a scholarship to study it at the university I am currently studying at. I have been a fan of yours for some time now and have bought, listened to and collected as many of your recordings as possible. I was wandering if it is possible to get hold/buy the sheet music to any of your own arrangements/compositions. I am particularly looking for the sheet music to Los Bandidos, Pictures at an Exhibition and the Romeo and Juliet Suite at the moment. It would be great if you could help me out/point me in the right direction. Thank you very much. RSL Russell Lock England Yes it is possible!! You can buy all these items from www.tarrodi.se material for sale, with credit cards. You can also order by mail: info@tarrodi.se CL
2010-06-23 Yesterday evening, I had the great pleasure to listen to your concert together with the gürzenich orchestra. I liked it very, very much. Specially the second part, the orchestra sitting otherway round, the wasp-story. it was just the right thing for me as a "Rheinländer", cause we like to laugh and like to have fun. The 7th symphony by petterson reminded me of my several summer holidays in sweden at lake ärtingen near bengtsfors. thank you for the great evening and hope i will have the pleasure to listen to you again somewhene in the future. georg from cologne Georg Rtoh Germany, Cologne Thank you SO MUCH for this inspiring comment! CL
2010-06-22 Hello Mr.Lindberg, I am a prof. trombone player( Rotterdam Conservatory, between 1988 and 1993, classical & Jazz). I did not play for 6 months but since 3 weeks I am trying to build up again. There have always been problems with my technic. Especially with my embouchure. The main raison for that was of course my lack of discipline to study. My technic and musicality have never been in balance. But I always managed to come through because of my talent. But as you know at a certain moment overstating does not work anymore. Only talent is not enough. So I still want to become a great trombonist. Great in the sense that I want to try everything to become a skillful player. I am 42 now so it is about time. I used to play all-round(classical,jazz,latin) and I would like to continue with this. At the moment I play on a Courtois Challenger, Model 360 TR with a Courtois TB 9 mouthpiece. I received this instrument from my parents a year ago, and I did not play much on it yet, so apart from my problems, this instrument needs to be warmed up and connected to my soul. Now my main problem... I cannot keep my embouchure under control. No matter how hard I try to keep the mouthcorners firm, no matter how hard I try to pay attention to my breathsupport. Sometimes my lipps even rebound off my mouthpiece. I am only playing long notes and flexibility exercises to find a way to get control but I am starting to get worried. I know it takes time to build up again but after 3/4 weeks I should see a little progression..but no... Sometimes I compensate by blowing up my cheek a bit, then it is a bit easier. I know it is wrong but at least then it is possible to play a note normally! What can I do? Be patient ? Do you have suggestions for me? I am sure I am not the only one with this problem but there is definitely something wrong with my embouchure. I hope you can give me an advice although I realize that it is difficult for you since you are on a distance. Thank you already in advance. Warm regards, Athenatius Athenatius Holland I am sure there is nothing wrong with your embouchure!! I would recomment you to practice seimple things for at least 6 months, and do it every single day four times 20 minutes!! Once in the morning, once around lucnh once en the afternoon and once in the evening. AND!! Just play the same way every time, even if it feels strange some days. Your body needs to get used to the trombone again!! Best of luck!! CL
2010-06-22 hello! Fantasic performance yesterday. Thank you Peter Germany Thanks you SO muc for that! CL
2010-06-22 Love your video diary!!! Peter Germany Thanks!! A new one for June is on its way wich will be a lot of fun! CL
2010-06-20 Hi Mr. Lindberg, I wrote to you once before, but write to you now with a different question. I am hopefully going to get an alto trombone soon, my question is which mouthpiece would be best for the beginner alto trombonist? It would be such a big help to know. Frank USA You should buy a CONN36H and a 15CL mouthpiece! Best of luck!!! CL
2010-06-20 Mr Lindberg Thanks a lot to your attention. Rudolph Rodolpho Adami Brasil Thanks CL
2010-06-19 its me again. ive been working hard with better techniques like u suggested mr. lindberg. it has helped very much and my sound has gotten much fatter and rounded and even darker with my tone. all the directors around my area know of me and my tone and playing. but my upper register is still needing some things. it has opened quite a bit but now im struggling with much resistance and little power behind the notes. when i try to put power behind them the sound gets hard and harsh. my upper register feels very hard to blow thru when i am playing in it and the tonguing comes out very harsh and hard also even tho i try and tongue very lightly. and my lips also need some new techniques for strength. and ideas what to do? josh usa Continue and have patience! Rome was not built in one day! Flexibility excercises and li trills are very good for upper register. But again, build up slowly, and be patient!! good luck! CL
2010-06-19 Hello! Thank you for comming to Beijing, I really enjoyed the concert. Hope you come back soon. Lee Beijing, China Thank you very much! I will be back in end of december this year! CL
2010-06-15 mr lindberg what do you think about the trombonist players: micha davis and daniele morandini? or israel I have not yet heard them play, but I am sure they are fantastic CL
2010-06-15 The natural tendencies of certain intervals like a sixth or so are a couple to many cents off the actual pitch to on a trombone it must be adjusted, so does that mean that a piano is always out of tune or does it somehow already fix this especially an electronic piano? Mark Hargan USA You are absolutely right! A piano is always out of tune!! But our western ear had gotten used to hear too big major thirds, too big major sixth and too small minor sixth and thirds. In the baroque period the harpsichords were tunded differently for different keys, so that one could get closer in intonation. Very interesting subject actually! CL
2010-06-14 mr lindberg, are u planning to come perform in israel? or.y.keller israel Nothing planned at the moment in my diary. CL
2010-06-13 Hi Mr. Lindberg. Do have a tipp for soundcreation in the upper register? Johannes Dams Germany It is very good to reach the upper register through flexibility exercises. Like Collins CL
2010-06-12 Hello mr lindberg. First of all it is nice of you to aswer to all of thes comments. Second i went to a compeition called AMERICA-ISRAEL CULTURAL FOUNDATION (have you herd of it?) so whene i started playing in front of the judges my mouth totaly dryed up. Do you have any tipes what to do whene it happens if you dont have watter next to you or what to do so it wont happen. Thank you for your time . Or Keller Or Keller Israel First of all: Don´t be nervous if you make mistakes, everyone does including me!! Music is about having fun and sharing it with other people, like having a party, going out with a good friend, seing your beloved! You have to look at it that way, and NOT like a competition showing that you are better than someone else. CL
2010-06-08 Dear Christian, I have a question about sound production. There is always some air in my sound, I tried buzzing mouthpiece, made the corners firmer and no tongue exercise. But none of these really works. Any advice about this? Best Wishes! Jimmy UK I would advice you to stop the buzzing. My experience is that it actually makes the sound worse. I would try to start on middle F(on second line in bass clef) and build the sound from there trying to find the centre in each note. Like aiming for bullseye when you through dart. CL
2010-06-07 Grattis till väl utförd Stockholm Marathon Pelle Stockholm Tack! De viktigaste för mig var att coacha fagottsten Christian Davidsson i mål, och det lyckades! Hans första maraton! CL
2010-06-07 Congratulations to the Marathon!! Steve USA Thanks! The most important for me, who have already done 8 marathons before, was to coach the bassoonist Christian Davidsson all the way to the finish line, and hat went really well! CL
2010-06-06 Hello Mr. Lindberg, I have a quick question about your web shop. When one orders the F. David Trombone Concerto for trombone and piano, is the trombone part included, or is it just the piano reduction? (Btw, your musicianship is absolutely inspiring! Phillip Sidock Canada yes, absolutely! CL
2010-06-06 hello I bought trombone Christian Lindberg conn solid silver bell but as sometimes happens I have just robbed the station of florence can I buy other things that are estimated succedono.con Guido Gemignani guido gemignani torre del lago puccini (italy) I am sure you can! CL

2010-05-29 Your web site and knowledge about trombone literature is spectacular. I am still trying to listen to the 1,000 Concertos. I am amazed at your conducting and writing endeavors. How does one contact you with professional questions. I just completed and recorded The Balboa Concerto for Trombone and String Orchestra, and as a non-trombonist composer, have several professional questions. The Concerto demo is on the net at http://4raz.com/mus123.htm An example of my questions is - Will a trombonist play a concerto that uses more than one type of trombone? With warm wishes for your continued success, Cordially, R. A. (Ron) R. A. Zuckerman U. S. Thanks for this! Very creative pice You have written! Only a few trombonists master the change between instruments, and then primarily between Alto and Tenor. I did write a piece commissioned by The Chicago Symphony Orchestra where the trombonist, Charlie Vernon, plays on three instruments, Bass, Tenor and Alto, but that is a unique speciality of his. Good luck with your continuous work as composer. CL
2010-05-29 Mr.Lindberg which Trombone and Mouthpiece did you used to record your first album? thank you Tamarat A. Thailand It was a prototype of my new mouthpiece 5CL CL
2010-05-29 Thank you Mr.Lindberg! because of your playing abilities Its makes me want to improve on playing trombone! and now Im the member of Royal Thai Air Force Band! 2010-05-28 mr. lindberg.. you recomend a book for yoga exercises.... what was it name??? sotiris cyprus There are many good books on Yoga, just by a simple book on "Begginners Yoga" in a shop and learn the easiest position first. CL
2010-05-26 Mr. Linberg I thank God for letting me hear and see such virtuoso trombonist as you are your music is totally exceptional I never thougth that I could be able to express these words to you by internet may God bless you your family and music POR SIEMBRE !!! Angel L Gonzalez Rivera Jr. Baceloneta Puerto Rico What a wonderful comment Angel! I take it to my heart! CL
2010-05-26 Whats a good exercise to increase flexibilty? Jacob Gandy United States There is a great book on flexibility by Carles Collins. Buy that one and start to study all the exercizes. Best of luck! CL
2010-05-24 Great post, thanks! Отличный постб спасибо! Сумерки 3 Sumerki Thanks CL

2010-05-20 Hey, just a quick question, do you know when you will be performing in Australia next, if at all? And will you come to Brisbane (my city)? Thanks! Sebastian Booth Australia I will come out for a tour with the Australian Chamber Orchestra: October 2-16 2012 and I am almost certain the tour goes to Brisbane :-) CL

2010-05-18 Hi Mr. Lindberg, my name is frank. I was wondering where you got the sheet music for the bourgeois concerto. i cannot find it at all! Frank USA I don¨t really know who is the publisher, sorry... CL
2010-05-18 Good evening. My partner thru life is turning 31 years the 28th of may. He has been playing tombone since the age of 7. His whole family is playing trombone, father and sister are playing trombone professional. His big idol is you, and i would so much like to surprise him with a consert. I find it a little difficult to undersand the webpage. Where would you suggest i take him to a consert of yours? I do hope for your answer. Best regards Hanne Tveiten :) Hanne Tveiten Norway You could either come to Cologne Philharmonie where I play my own piece Helikon Wasp with the Gurzench Symphony Orchestra and also conduct Schubert and Pettersson 20.21 or 22 of June, or to Croix de Valmer in South of France, where I play David Trombone Concerto and conduct dae Falla, Tchaikovsky and Gerswin with Östgöta Wind ensemble on the 25th of June. These are the only places that I play until autumn, except Beijing 13 June, but i guess that will be too far to travel. If you come you are more than wellcome to come backstage and say hello :-) CL
2010-05-18 For the Bourgeois question below: http://www.sheetmusicplus.com/title/Trombone-Concerto-Op-114-piano-reduction/17648875 or http://www.boosey.com/shop/prod/Bourgeois-Derek-Trombone-Concerto-Op-114-Tbn-Piano/612174 (Thomas Gibbs, UK) Great Thomas, thanks!! :-) CL
2010-05-17 Thank you for a great and fantastic concert in Nijmegen. Jenny Netherlands Thanks so much Jenny! CL
2010-05-16 Hello Mr. Lindberg! I was wondering if you know anything that will make me loosen up in the upper register because I am always too tense. Are there any techniques you use to relax up there? Thanks a lot! Adrian USA Make sure that you have a good position, pretend that I play a lower note, push the air and keep corners firm. Instead of thinking of a note being high, you can think that it is far away(so that you eed to push a lot of air to reach it) Best of luck! CL
2010-05-16 Thank you for a fantastic concert yesterday. Lucas Netherland Thanks so much Lucas! CL
2010-05-16 Traduzione da Italiano verso IngleseVisualizza caratteri romani hello christian wanted to know if you had some time in Italy with the artic a sincere greeting. Guido Gemignani guido gemignani torre del lago Puccini (italy) Nothing planned at the moment, but we hope to be able to in future! The closest to Italy we will be is in Maribor Festival September 2012 CL
2010-05-15 Hello and good morning. Just as I thought yesterday was a memorable concert, Sandstroms new concerto for two trombones Ecos is a masterpiece. How on earth can you both play and conduct, Brilliant. Both Nielsen and Sibelius went straight into the heart. Thank you so much Wish you all the best. Hope you enjoy Netherland, Elsa Elsa Netherlands Thank you so much Elsa!! I will take this to my heart! CL

2010-05-11 TACK för en magnifik konsert i konserthuset den nionde maj. En oförglömlig upplevelse Berit Sweden Tack Berit! CL
2010-05-10 Hey Christian, How to keep your throat relax and open when you play? I just found it is very hard to feel. Thanks!! Matt UK I think your position is very important! Your head has to be placed absolutely straight in the center of the body vertically. Study Yoga position no 1! If you can learn that position your throat will be open automatically. Best of luck! CL
2010-05-08 Hi Mr Lindberg, what sort of music would you say is idiomatic for the trombone? Thanks! Sebastian Booth Australia Lars Erik Larsson Concertino, David trombone concerto, Gröndahl trombone concerto, Mandrake int the Corner, Arabenne, Blue Bells of Scotland and many more... CL
2010-05-08 Hi there, what do you do to develop your endurance practice 8 hrs a day and to prepare a piece like "Troorkh", is their a methodical way to do this, is there a special exercise you do, do you just do long tones in that really high register, I would really love to know your secret to your god like chops! Edward Smith USA Thanks for your compliment,Hard work is the secret. There is a system by carmino Caruso for trumpet. I have modified that for trombone, and also do flexibility studies, and lip trills in high register, as well as long notes 8 seconds srescendo diminuendo CL
2010-04-22 Hey Christian, me again I was wondering where I could find your orchestral arrangement for Morceau Symphonique (the best piece ever) for a music extension assignment I am doing. Thanks heaps. Sebastian Booth Australia You can get it from Edition Tarrodi: www.tarrodi.se info@tarrodi.se CL
2010-04-19 Hey Mr. Lindberg. I am looking for a piece to play on the alto trombone. I particularly want a piece from the Romantic era, or a piece in romantic style that is nice on the alto trombone. Any clues would be great, thanks. Joel USA Check out the pieces on my CD "Songs for Sunset". There are many great pieces there, such as Apres un Reve or Plus que lent, and on my CD "The Criminal Trombone there are some grat Schuman pieces and others. CL
2010-04-18 Thank you for your fantastic concert in Sandefjord Brilliant .... Gabrielle Norway Thank you very much!! CL
2010-04-10 Hello Mr. Lindberg I was wondering what are some of the things you do before a show if you get nervous to try and relax your nerves? I would also like to say that the arctic philharmonic is a great idea and look forward to what the future holds for you guys. Sean USA the best before a show is just to relax as much as possible. Don´t move too much, and don´t be nervous because you are nervous....this is afact for everyone, and just rest in the fact that you are nevrous. Then, just before you go on stage, breath!!! Think positively!! Really see yourself as the best, and that EVEN IF YOU MAKE MISTAKES EVERYONE LOVES YOU!!! CL
2010-04-10 Hi Christian, You have given masterclass all over the world, in your opinion, which conservatory is best for trombone playing? Thanks!! Li Ming HK There are so many!! Rotterdam, Hannover, Stockholm, New York, Chicago are the ones I primarily think of, but the most important is the relationship you get with the particular teacher teaching at the concervatory you go to. CL
2010-04-09 Sr.Cristian sou seu fã nº1 ,tenho problemas de resistencia o que devo fazer para para melhorar? abraçes e obrigado. Paulo Sergio Brasil-Sp Thank you for your compliment. I think the most important thing to get rid of your resistanceproblem is to concentrate on using the air properly. Always more air than you think!! CL
2010-04-09 What are your 3 favorite compositions? I think that Arabenne and ASA are amazing! John U.S.A Thank you so much for your compliment! Very difficult to choose three composers...but if I have to my choice of today would be Bach, Mozart and Schubert...tomorrow maybe Tchaikovsky, Handel and Haydn...?? Day after maybe Stravinsky, Xenakis, Morricone...?? CL
2010-04-09 do you think pressure is necessary to play the trombone?also, do we suppose to use same pressure in all registers? Alex U.K pressure is necessary, yes! But try not to press too much!! The high register will always need more pressure, best of luck! CL
2010-04-06 Hey Mr. Lindberg, I am absolutely in love with Melodie from your Russian trombone album. I would really like to play this piece, but I can not find music anywhere at all. Could you help me in any way, or do I just need to sit down and try to transcribe it out by ear? Curtis F America I am not sure, but I think that Edition Tarrodi has published this...write to info@tarrodi.se to ask. CL
2010-04-03 what trombone mouthpiece you are using? regin santos phil I am using 4CL, 5CL and 2CL (my own mouthpiece, sold by CONN/SELMER) on the tenor and 10, 13 and 15 on the alto trombone, all depending on venue and repertoire. CL
2010-04-01 Hej Christian. Lets keep in touch käre vän!!! CL
2010-03-29 I am worried about the tone on some of my lower notes, from low Bb down to F my notes go thinner and I was wondering if you had any tips on improving them? Thank you Ruth UK Make sure you play equally much per day on the low register as high. Too much high playing makes low register thin!! Best of luck! CL
2010-03-28 You said you have a soundproof room, did it come soundproof, if it didnt what do you do to soundproof it? Eddie Crixell I built a room inside another room with isolation in between. CL
2010-03-28 Do you recommend changing warm-ups from time to time? John U.S.A Actually not really....a warmup should be something that one feels completely at home with, so if you have one that you feel happy with, stick to it! Best of luck! CL
2010-03-25 Ok, in your past blog you said that you practice in 30 min segments of 1. warmup, 2.scales, 3.flexibility, 4. arbans, 5.methods, 6. and concerto which all equals to about 5 hrs, well I was wondering first when you were doing lets say a warm up, would you ever finish before 30 min or did you just keep warming up till you hit 30 min, and second you also said you used to practice 8 hrs a day so what did you do after that 3 hr routine to make practice that much/ Bill Emerson USA I always planned my practice caerfully so that I had a warmup routine that took 30 minutes.when I did 8 hours I did many different kinds of exercizes, like long notes and different strengthening exercises. I also worked on solorepertoire of course. CL
2010-03-25 Do or did you ever use books for a warmup? Jimmy Carmicheal USA I created my own warmup when I was 23 and has kept it ever since. CL
2010-03-24 When you practice 25/30 min at a time do you put a timer? or did you used to? sometime times goes really fast and so other times feels very slow. Julio Costa Rica Yes I used to put a timer on CL
2010-03-24 Which repertoire you enjoy playing the most? John U.S.A Motorbike Concert, Leopold Mozart, David, Takemitsu, Berio and many many other pieces. When it comes to conducting: Sibelius, Nielsen, Tchaikovsky, Mahler, Mozart and much much more! CL
2010-03-22 How do you increase single tonguing speed? Bobby Lewis usa You have to be relaxed in the tongue, but other than that it is just practice CL
2010-03-22 Can you trill pedal notes or at least low trigger c to the partial above? Maria USA possible CL
2010-03-22 When you do exercises like scales or lip slurs do strive for perfection (in tune and no cracks), and if you make a crack should you start and do it over again and slower until its absolutely perfect? Luvin Puerto Rico absolutely perfect is impossible. You should give yourself a limited time to strive for perfection, and then let go to the next day. Gradually your playing will improve by itself. CL
2010-03-22 How to keep the tongue relaxed all the time no matter the range is? Do you think do yoga breathing exercise also help? Thanks! Yilun Taiwan Support from the air is the answer, and yoga is great for that! CL
2010-03-21 How do you work on dynamics in the high registers without blowing your chops? Alfred Canada Therea are many ways, but long notes with crescendo and diminuendo in the upper register is a very good option! Best of luck! CL
2010-03-21 When I here you and other amazing trombonist play and you are sluring from a high note to at least 2 or more partials down I always hear a little bit of the other notes in between, very subtle but its still there, is that supposed to happen or is it a bad thing cause when I try to practice that I try not to get notes in between but it always happen (not like a jazzy downward slur or anything) but just subtly, and also if I slur up an interval of a major tenth or higher it happens too, so I was just wondering if thats supposed to happen. David Usa Well...there is always a human touch to everything one does!! But in principle you should be able to slur without getting other notes in between. Best of luck! CL
2010-03-21 Hey Mr. Lindberg, how are you today, well I wanted to know since for the summer Im going to a city for vacation but I will be living in an apartment where Im not allowed to practice because of noise, I was wondering if there was any way around this, I also have the yamaha silent brass system but I wondering if it would detract my playing if I used that for 2 months straight and if it would be better to not play for 2 months or should use that anyways, just wondering what would you do cause I feel bad if I cant get at least 2 hours a day? Johnny Mckenzie USA Go with the Yamaha thing, or try to practice in the hotelroom open...until they compalin...at least you get some practice in....practice is good for you, so keep it up as mucha as you can :-) CL
2010-03-21 When you do yoga do you breath from the mouth or from the nose? I heard that people breath from the nose when they do yoga.. what about salutation of the sun? breathing from the mouth or the nose? Jason U.S From the nose CL
2010-03-20 Hi, i have a problem with upbeats, even if I have the metronome on and tap my foot whenever I try to play upbeats I slow revert into playing downbeats without noticing until it fully happens, how do i fix this? Seymour us You have to listen a lot to music so you get upbeats in to your ear and body...also try not to move too much....dancing classes could also help... CL
2010-03-20 mr christian lindberg... i think that you are the best player all over the world... are you a natural player???? sotiris cyprus I think in a way I am...but in addition to that I am a very hard worker!! CL
2010-03-19 Hi how are you doing, I have a problem I hope you could help with that has to do with double tonguing, I can double and triple tongue pretty well being able to do almost every exercise out of the arbans but my problem whenever i start an exercise that starts double tonguing at the first four note, somehow I feel like I get a little nervous or something and it wont happen unless I hit a quarter note before that to get the air started, it doesnt happen on my triple tonguing, I feel like I have too much air backed up or something and I can hit the normal TU part but the KU isnt happening, I hope you understand what im talking about and can help me, thanks again and best of luck! Jorge Mendoza usa It is a totally normal problem! You just need to practice Tu Ku slowly over and over again...after a couple of months you will be fine! CL
2010-03-19 You have the best air control! Do you recommend any breathing aid(tools)? Elton U.K No, just study bearthing in Yoga! CL
2010-03-19 What do you think of breath attacks, are they important to work on (to help centering note), do you work on them? Carl usa I think it is a good help, but should not be overdone. Practice on the coordination between the tongue and the airstream, that is the secret! CL
2010-03-19 When you say keep corners tight do you mean that they have to stay at the same place? What about if corners go down when you go to the high range? Also, do you do yoga everyday? do you do it before you start playing the trombone or later in the day? You are a true inspiration to all of us! Rey Puerto Rico I think corners down are unnecessary! Keep corners tight on the whole register, as similar as possible in all registers. CL
2010-03-19 Why do you prefer the 4CL mouthpiece these days instead of the 5CL? Jay U.S.A I do not necessary prefer it...it is just a bit bigger, but I switch between the two depending on repertoire CL
2010-03-19 Hi, after i practice for a while my left wrist starts to hurt, is there any to prevent and get rid of it? Ryan U.S.A workout! It is very important to be strong in your left arm!! CL
2010-03-19 How do you articulate clearly in the high register like in staccato cause my legato is great up their but my staccato is usually a little fuzzy at the millisecond start of it, and also in the home page of your website you have a video of Charlie Vernon playing and he starts off double tonguing a high and I was wondering how to get the double tonguing up in that register so clear and separated, thank you in advance you are such an amazing player and you are my idol so its such an honor to be able to communicate wih you. Will Hueghs united states The tongue should be gentle in all registers. It is very easy to get tensed particularly in the high register, and then the tongue also follows. Try to practice to be relaxed in the tongue even in double tongue and let the air do the job CL
2010-03-18 Hello Mr. Lindberg, your playing really brightens my day. One question, what do you use to lubricate your slide? And how do you apply it? What do you think of Slide-O-Mix or Yamaha slide oil? Thank you! Coleman USA Slide-O-mix is by far the best!! I use the one component version CL
2010-03-18 Back when you practice for 8 hrs a day how did you schedule your breaks, like did you just play for 30 min and took a 30 min break (which is about 16 hrs) or something else? Fred US Started at 6 o´clock and did 30 minutes at a time until 22.00 with at least 30 minutes break. The longer breaks I did in the afternoon when my focus was a bit weaker than in the rest of the day CL
2010-03-17 Dear Christian, Will you use air attack or other way rather than "Tah" to start a note just for safety reason?(e.g.when your tongue get stiff) Best, Jimmy China no never! Always a gentle tongue involved, but air support is essential CL
2010-03-16 When is the new cd with the Chinese pieces coming out? Jordan-U.S I don´t know yet. If you write a mail to mr von Bahr at BIS robert@bis.se he might be able to answer you. CL
2010-03-15 How long do you do yoga in a day, and what yoga excersizes do you do? Carl I do 18 different positions, and usually 30-40 minutes a day CL
2010-03-15 Dear Christian, In the third movement of the Mandrake in the Corner, there is a fast passage: 4434 33b23 221b7 6472, 4434 33b23 221b76. Will you play from first to sixth position twice? There are so many possibilities, I just wondering which way sounds the best, Thanks, Jimmy Jimmy China I use original positions...best of luck! CL
2010-03-14 Can I by the Conn 88hcl leadpipe seperate from the horn or do I have to get it all together? Andy usa Yes you can buy seperate leadpipes CL
2010-03-14 Are you a good sightreader, and what do you do nowadays to work on it (assuming you still work on it). Carl usa I am an average sight reader...it comes normal, specifically when I conduct a lot CL
2010-03-14 How do you learn the technique of conducting, is there a book or do you just imitate others or is there something else? jackie usa There are some great books, one by Scherzen, and I also studied with at leat 6 different conductors. Then a lot has to do with practice CL
2010-03-14 You said that nowadays you only practice 2 hrs a day, what do you practice or how is your practice schedule, also you said when you were younger you practiced 90 min a day, what did you practice in those 90 min? Brad Minks Canada I usually only do a warmup and practice the pieces I have to play in concert. When I was younger I practiced Arban, Schlossberg, Vobaron, Hansen, Couillaud, Lafosse and many other things CL
2010-03-14 In your warm-up you do some slow lip slurs, so does that mean that when you spend time on flexibility studies you just work on fast lip slurs and trills? adrian u.s.a basically yes. CL
2010-03-14 How important do you think it is for a trombonist (or any musician for that matter) to learn how to sing, and how much time do you spend practicing it? T.J United States It is good to be able to sing, but you should not focus too much on that CL
2010-03-14 How do you practice multiphonics, is there any books for that, do you spend a certain amount of time in your routine to learn it or is it just natural? Derek I practice the different solo pieces that has multiphonics, like Motorbike Concerto, Don Quixote, Joe Jack Binglebandit and Arabenn CL
2010-03-14 How much time in your youth did you spend studying composers, musical styles, and other things like that and what did you use to study and research them, also how much time did you devote to learning music theory? drew us I did a lot of music theory between 17 and 20. Regarding musical styles I just listened to really a lot of music and different performers CL
2010-03-14 Would you ever do vibrato on a low not or even a pedal tone? Harold Sanders Yes absolutely! CL
2010-03-14 I wanted to try something out but wondered if it was worth it or stupid, so I was wondering would it be okay to put a bass trombone slide on the 88-hcl, like I know it fits but sound wise do you think it would mess it up, be good,or is there another alternative because Ive noticed that I dont overblow as much with the bass slide. Andy usa If it suites you well feel free to try!! CL
2010-03-14 Mrs.Lindberg what are you think about buzzing without mouthpieces and Stamp warm up Hrvoje elan Croatia Stamp has some very good things in it, but I do not recommend buzzing without mouthpiece CL
2010-03-12 In which countries in Asia have you played? Will you come to Japan anytime soon? Hua Japan I played in China, Taiwan, Japan, Hong-Kong, Singapore, Seoul, Malaysia and some more, and I will come to Japan June 7-21 2010 CL

2010-03-10 Hi Mr.Lindberg, Do you think competition can judge a player fairly? For example, in ADR competition Fabrice Millischer won first prize and Frederic Belli won second means Fabrice is better? Do you think the best player always won the competition? Sorry for these long questions, I know you also won some important competitions, so just ask for your opinion about that. Many thanks for your help! Tom Czech I think very often that competitions are unfair, specifically if the voting system is not 100% safe. Also, it depends very much on the jury. It can never be an absolute winner, only one that the jury finds the best. CL
2010-03-10 Ok, since you are the biggest expert in music I know I was wondering how a general rule of music goes. So lets say Im playing and etude or solo and I want to be musical with it, Ive heard many different things but I was wondering, lets say there were no dynamic markings what do you do dynamically to an ascending or descending line? Ive heard it should go with the direction of the line so if it goes up it gets louder and vice-versa but Ive also heard that if it gets lower you need to play louder just to keep it the same volume and I was just wondering whats right because those ideas kind of conflict with each other but they both make sense. Hope this made sense and sorry about the long post. Christian USA There is never right or wrong! Music is a language of communication, and like a normal language we have to understand each other through it, and the more you listen to different views and different music the better your own msicality will be. CL
2010-03-10 A friend of mine had a discussion over your playing and I was wondering how you would compare your playing with someone like Joseph Alessi since your both amazing players yet seem to be different in your style. Joshua Arnold Usa Joseph and I are two individual players, and we both try to have as much musical colours in our playing a possible and the aim must be to be able to play in as many ways as possible: meaning when you play Mozart you play in one way, when you play Brahms differently,, when you play baroque music you choose another way. CL
2010-03-10 How long is your warm-up and do you do more than just long tones? Raphael USA My warmup is 30 minutes and contains yoga excersices, slow slurs and long notes only CL
2010-03-10 In one of your old post you said that you worked in increment of 30 minute sessions and that in one session you did legato/flexibility, so what did you do for legato (or did you just work out of the rochut) and did you just do 15 min on one and 15 min on the other, and also what did you do to work on all the other clefs (besides common ones like bass tenor and alto)? aaron ringold usa Legato excercises like Rochut is great, and I usually worked on one excercise per week, 15 minutes a day. There are great clef studies in the book by Anton Hansen CL
2010-03-10 What do you think of the trombonist Joe Alessi? do you have any favorite American trombonists? George U.S.A Joseph Alessi is a fantastic trombonist!! I also think that Scott Hartman, Charlie Vernon, Jay Freidman, Ralph Sauer, Mark Lawrence, Norman Bolter and many other americans are great!! CL
2010-03-10 How are you able to play so loud? do you practice loud playing often? you are my favorite trombonist! Teddy U.S Loud playing has a lot to do with the airstream, and to play with an open throat. I think one has to constantly practice all dynamics!! Thank you for the compliment :-) CL
2010-03-10 Dear Mr,Lindberg, Which teacher influence you most to be the first trombone soloist? Thanks! Joachim Germany The Tuba player Roger Bobo CL
2010-03-10 Hi Christian, Could you mention some names in the younger generation that could become another "Christian Lindberg"? Best Wishes! Matt UK Frederic Belli and Håkan Björkman CL
2010-03-09 Do you do a warm-down after you play, and if you do what do you do for it? Carl usa Sometimes I play in the low register to warm-down CL
2010-03-09 When you first started playing trombone at 17 how many hours did you practice and how did you have lessons with your teacher (forgot his name)? Amy united states I had lessons once a week and practiced 90 minutes a day when I started at 17 CL
2010-03-09 Have you ever thought about transposing trumpet solos (or just reading it in tenor) and recording those solo on a cd? Richard usa I have thought about it but never did CL
2010-03-08 Dear Chrisitan, How to concentrate your mind before you play in a concert? Will you put words in the music to help you express your ideas? Best!! Ming li HK No, not really...just enjoy the music itsef as it is!! If you like the piece you play it should be like telling a friend about a film you really like...or a painting...or a friend...do not waist energy on being nervous about mistakes. Everyone makes mistakes, that is part of being a human being!! Best of luck! CL
2010-03-08 Lindberg. You are my favorite trombone player. I am a trombonist. And I want to ask you some questions: How many hours do you study? What size nozzle do you use? How many years have you been studying? Sincerely Miguel Casado Alvaro Miguel Spain At the moment I practice 2 hours a day, but earlier on I practiced between 3 and 7 hours per day. I started to play trombone when I was 17 so I have been playing for 35 years. I use a Conn 88CLSGX with a 4CL mouthpiece. All the best, CL
2010-03-06 Dear Mr.Lindberg, How many hours of practise you need to keep your best playing level when you were a full-time soloist? Many thanks for your reply! Dandy Li Taiwan Actually, I am at my best at the moment practicing 2 hours a day, but to be able to learn all the different pieces I premiered before, and to build up strenght I used to practice 3-4 hours, except for one year back in the 80_. when I practiced 6-8 hours a day. CL
2010-03-06 hello mr. lindberg at first i would say that i´m a great fan of you. your trombone play is with so much emotions an you inspired my trombone play every day. i have one question you say for scales is good to play from the book called hansen. Where i can buy this book? have a nice day. Lukas Lukas Klingler Austia I really do not know, you will have to find out from internet. It was 30 years ago that I bought it, and the publisher was Danish CL
2010-03-06 Hi Christian, Could you recommend some good places in U.S. to study trombone? How about the trombone playing level in Curtis Institute of Music? Thanks! Dave London I know very little about US, but I would recommend Chicago, Minnesota, Los Angeles, Boston or New York. There are good players teaching at all these places. CL
2010-03-05 How do improve intonation beside doing scales because my ear is good enough to tune to the same pitch Im playing but when I tune to a major second above it just doesnt happen, and also how do I find out the natural tendencies of tuning, like I heard that youre supposed to raise the fifth and so on? marcus usa Yes! You play a major sixth and third lower, a minor third higher, a seventh lower and a fifth slightly higher...the best way is to play duets with a good friend who also have a good ear. CL
2010-03-05 What books did you use for flexibility? Fred Charles Collins and Schlossberg CL
2010-03-01 Hi Christian, I have been having trouble with my embouchere, specifically with keeping my chin down and corners tight. I can still produce a good sound from top Bb and above, but my teacher says that I have to fix this so that I can further develop my range, at the moment I can get about a top D. What do you recommend? Sebastian Booth Australia I recommend buiding the embouchure from the middle register slowly, to concentrate on the breathing and keeping the corners tight! CL
2010-03-01 Is there any point in memorizing all the modes of a scale ie: mixolydian, ionian etc., and do you have any of them memorized? Oswald Canada It is always good the more you know, but memorizing all the scales..?? I have not done that CL
2010-03-01 How did you practice scales? Derek usa According to the Hansen book, and also slowly on quarter notes 60 CL
2010-03-01 Back when you played in an orchestra/band did you ever find it hard to NOT use vibrato in an emotional passage? Ken usa No not really. You have to be able to play straight and with vibrato...to be flexible! CL
2010-03-01 Back in the day did you practice double and triple tounging everdyay and did you just use the same arban exercises for it? Brad Minks usa yes absolutely CL
2010-03-01 I know you strongly dislike buzzing but is it still bad to do it to "just get the blood flowing"or to get the intonation on a passage right? Jasos Biggs usa just for blood flowing absolutely OK, but intonation will definetly not get better from buzzing. And IF you buzz, make sure you hold your hand in front of the opening so that you get a similar resistance as when you play with the trombone CL
2010-03-01 Hi Mr. Lindberg, its me again, also Ralph Sauer also doesnt like to use mouthpiece buzzing but in the trombone forum he says its alright to do it if you have a resistance of sorts like a B.E.R.P, do you think it would be okay then to do some buzzing? Jasos Biggs usa Yes, that is at least better than without CL
2010-03-01 Hello Mr. Lindberg, I was wondering how many different instruments can you play? BTW I wanted you to know that me and every trombonist I know thinks your the best trombone player in history and hope you never quit this phenomena of beautiful trombone playing. :) Howard Thank you for this lovely compliment!! Actually, I started playing the drums, then a bit of trumpet, piano and cello. Thats about it, expect of course the alto sackbut tenor sackbut, the alto trombone and the tenor trombone... CL
2010-03-01 How do you approach/practice double and triple tounging at a slow metronomic tempo, like do you accent the kah syllable, and when I do the kah syllable slowly to seems to cut off the airflow, is that normal or am I doing something wrong because the only way for it to sound right with me is to blow it out in augmented breaths instead of one continuous on. Sorry for the long post but it was really bothering me and I hope your day goes well :D Laramy LeBraun USA This is completely natural!! Just continue to work every day on it and it will get beter, but it might take a couple of months CL
2010-02-27 I bought the master Lindberg trombone conn 88h solid silver bell simply amazing in 2011 I hope to be able to do the master class in Vinci (Florence) compliments for vernon home page with a sincere greeting Guido Gemignani Guido Gemignani I am so happy you like the trombone, I do too!!! CL
2010-02-27 Can you play in soprano and treble clef? Fred usa I can but I am not terribly good at sightreading in these clefs...work on it, it is useful! CL
2010-02-27 How do you practice scales (and their different forms)? rodney There is a book called Hansen that has a very good scale training programme CL
2010-02-27 Dear Mr. Lindberg, No matter what I do my high range is not strong. what part of the body needs to have a lot of strength in order to hit high notes and which parts should remain completely relaxed? Juan Chile There has to be a balance and you should try it with as little effort as possible. The air is very important, as is the corners of the mouth CL
2010-02-24 Dear Christian, Will you use "Stomach Push" at the beginning of note? Do you think it could help you to release pressure on your lips? Thanks!! Zhu Chen HK No! Just blow the air out compeltely natural. There has been far too much focus on stomach push, support, breathing low in brass pedagogy, and this has created tention for many people. CL
2010-02-22 Hi, I was wondering what books I should to help with counting rhythms. Tommy Samus USA Arban school is very good for this, on a basic level CL
2010-02-22 What do you do to be able to play all note dynamically the same, because my ppp dynamic in the high register is beautiful and resonant but the lower I get the more fuzzier it gets especially if Im fatigued, and when I play loud the low and high register always speaks well, but especially the middle register I cant play loud well without cracking and I cant play soft well with being fuzzy, so as the master of dynamics and the god of trombone performance I come to you praying for and answer. :) Thanks in advance and sorry for the long question. Harrison usa Well...your problems are universal!! Esactly there problems were mine 30 years ago, and I practiced, practiced, practiced on the WEAK parts of my playing, and greadually wy lips and my body learnt to control all dynamics. So, unfortunately no great secret to this quiestion, but I promise you, hard work and patience helps!! CL
2010-02-21 Hello Mr.Lindberg, If a student want to pursue a solo career, which teacher you think is the most suitable to study with? Best Wishes! Lucia Poland He would need to study with all the great players, starting with Jonas Bylund, Håan Bjrkman, Frederic Belli, Ricardo Casero and PEter Sullivan, to name a few. CL
2010-02-20 What do you do before you play to keep a steady tempo (lets say on an unaccompanied solo), because our band director uses the pulsing method where in his head hell think a metronomic tempo and hold it in his head. Randy us That is a very good idea! To practice awareness of different tempi, for instance 60 18, 120, 160...most of us usually have problems rushing tempi,, particularly slow tempi, and it is good to check oneself from time to time. Gradually the brain learns to get control over it, and then one can be free and make rubatos, which is of course also a very important part of making music CL
2010-02-20 Dear Mr. Lindberg What is the technique that you use to play the slide trombone so fast ? For example in Czardas Monti solo , how do you control your throat to produce the notes? Are there a trombone method that you recommend ? yours faithfully Rudolph Antonio Rodolpho C. Adami Brasil Gradually slowly speed up your ability to play fast is the secret...start slowly slowly, and take one step at a time and the body will eventually get used to very fast tempi. In a way like driving a car...in the begining 60 k/hours feel very very fast, but once you got used to it 100 is no problem. But tarting immediately to go to 100 make you feel out of control CL
2010-02-20 Hi Christian, Why I did every markings on the page, my teacher and the audience still told me my playing is not musically enough? How can you touch audience? Wang Feng New Zealand You have to develope your life in general...feel sorrow, love, happiness, anger, frustration...this is what you communicate to your audience, and you should not be shy to show your true feelings in music!! CL
2010-02-19 I played trombone for 17 years, after which I suffered some sort of embouchure collapse. I quickly lost range, endurance, flexibility and tone. When I play, my lips are constantly shaking (at about 6 hz), as is my tone. I am currently pursuing this medically, but I was wondering if you have ever heard of anything like this, and could offer any advice. Russ Canada Most players experience this some time. Please try not to think about it and just play and practice!!! Give it at least 6 month without thinking about your problems!! For MANY peaople this have worked splendidly and might work also for you!! Best of luck!! CL
2010-02-19 Dear Mr.Lindberg, Do you think play slow and quiet notes could help articulation? My teacher always want to hear the tongue at the beginning of every note, do you think is a good way to do? Thank you for your help!! Joe He Taiwan This sounds good to me, but maybe you should focurs on the air behind the tongue also!! It You only use the tongue, the attack can get quite hard sometimes... CL
2010-02-18 My articulation is not very good, I get a a little (br) in the beginning of notes. Is there a way to fix this? Kyle U.S.A You need to use a lot of air when producing a note, and also to be relaxed in your tongue. Then probably the (br) will disappear CL
2010-02-17 Hi Chrisitan, Do you record your playing often? Do you think it is a good tool? Sometime I found that the sound heard by myself differed from other one. All the Best!! Ayako Japan I believe that it is extremely good to record yourself! However, make sure that your equipment is good enough to create reality, and also, do not let it take too much time off your normal practice! CL
2010-02-16 How did you balance practice time with sleeping and schoolwork back in high school? timmy us I practiced only 90 minutes per day. 30 before school, 30 after school and 30 in the evening CL
2010-02-16 How do you deal with a bad accompanist? Ryan USA Try to be very positive while working with him, and then do not use him again... CL
2010-02-16 what did you do in high school in terms of a practice schedule, i know you worked in segments of around 30 min but what time during the day did you do that because I find that I can usually have around 1 hr time to play but Ide have to wait three hours to play again due to schoolwork. timmy usa As I said before, 90 minute a day in school is enough three times 30 minutes CL
2010-02-16 Ok, so lets say your playing a solo (with just a piano accompanying you) and you have a long time of rests, and your playing in front of many people and on top of that your playing from memory (so no stand). How do you position yourself when you are in that situation, isnt it a little awkward just staring at the crowd, I know you wouldnt (say for example in the David concerto) keep your horn up in playing position for 40+ measures, sorry about this question but I was just curious and Ide thought ide ask a full time trombone soloist. Yemin USA You just concentrate on prijecting the music to the audience as if you were talking to them CL
2010-02-16 I read in one of your other blogs how to learn intervals and their importance, but how exactly do you learn to look at a note on page and tell instantly what interval from that note to another is, because I know my intervals and what they sound like but when I look at sheet music I have to count to find out what interval it is and then I can hear it, thanks in advance. Harold Sanders united states You will eventually get used to it! Your brain works faster and faster the more you do it, just like video games!! CL
2010-02-16 Whats the point of learning alto clef if its virtually in no piece except one or two? Richard It is always worth learning new things, if not for usage, just to have a workout for your brain CL
2010-02-16 Dear Christian, Could you tell me what kind of pattern you use when you play long notes? Best, Jimmy UK 8 notes a time, 8 beats in 60 crecscendo diminuendo on each note CL
2010-02-16 Maestro Lindberg, Are you thinking about buying a new Ferrari soon? Fred Canada No I don´t think so...in a time where our enviroment is a priority it feels wrong to buy another sportscar. CL
2010-02-16 Hei, Christian!
2010-02-16 Dear Christian, How to improve intonation? Will you use tuner to check every note you played? Thank you very much!! Alan Hongkong(China) You could, but a good way is to sing the note inside before you play it...and to practice really slow CL
2010-02-16 Hi Mr.Lindber, If a player have to play with a mute most of the time, how to still keep improve the sound and intonation? Ma taidi Taiwan impossible! Please do not use mute too much! CL
2010-02-14 Hello, Christian! Just want to wish you a very happy birthday coming!! All the best! Pedro Henrique Brazil Thanks a lot Pedro! CL

2010-02-12 what do you think of lip bends? laermy I really do not recommend that and think it is a waist of time CL
2010-02-12 What is the best way to learn intervals and to learn what interval a certain note to the next note is by just looking at the staff? Ryan U.S.A Start with thinking of a certain song for each interval (ex: first in US National anthem minor third) and learn to sing each interval. Practice all intervals every day!) CL
2010-02-11 Have you ever thought about playing bass trombone. will you ever have your line of mouthpieces in a bass trombone shank. Chris Trotter USA when I had more time I was actually starting the process of making a Bass trombone mouthpiece, and I still think about it, so maybe one day...I also had plans to play the bass trombone before, but now my composing and conducting career take most of my time. CL
2010-02-11 Which are your 3 favorites musical instruments and do you play any instruments for fun? John US I play cello for fun, and my three favourite instruments...? Difficult, but if I have to chosee: percussion, baritone sax and electric guitar CL

I try to stay with the basic emouchure over the whole register, chaning a little for thelowest pedal notes. The basi embouchure should be basied on the middle F(below tuning Bb) CL
2010-02-10 Did you study jazz? It sounds like you get a very nice feel when you play pieces with jazz elements! Willie California-U.S I started as a jazz trombpnist and always listen to jazz CL
2010-02-10 What is an ideal room for practice? In what kind of rooms did you spend most of your time practicing? Mariah U.S.A It a room with quite dry accoustic so you do not get spoiled. Most of my time I spent in a small and soundproof room at home. CL
2010-02-09 Do you have any routine before you practice that you think everybody should do, for instance before I play I will, stretch, exercise, sing a little, do breathing exercises and then finally pick my horn up, I was just wondering if you do things like this or feel that it is needed? Eric united state I do simple long notes in a specific pattern, will publish my warmup one day when I get time for it....puh...I also do yoga with my warmup CL
2010-02-09 Do you ever listen to other pro trombone players? cj Of course! Whenever I find the time! CL

2010-02-09 If you had a solo to work up in about a month and due to school you only had an hour and a half to practice each day how would you schedule or layout the practice sessions? Thanks in advance! Ren us Half an hour warmup, and the rest of slowly and seriously work on your piece CL
2010-02-09 Are any kind of exercises that you do to increase the speed of your arm, because theres a lot of pieces that you do that requires fast slide movement and I cant move my slide that fast without messing up my embouchure in the process. BTW I love your playing so much, I believe you transcend the boundary of trombone playing past all other instruments, even the human voice :) Timothy smith US Thank you so much for your compliment! The way to increase your slide technique is to work on the Arban school. I worked on all the exercises there for over four years CL

Jimmy Jimmy China No, never, but I guess practicing less, and very soft and easy practicing, I do not think stopping completely is the best way, but again, it depends of how serious it is...? CL
2010-01-28 Hi Christian, Before a big concert or a competition, how to schedule your daily practise and keep the best state till your performace? Could you give me your routine for that? I am preparing a competition now. All the Best to you, Maestro!! Bingbing Hongkong Just do a warmup and maximum 30 minutes on the pieces you are performing, slowly and relaxed. Have a nice lunch around 2 oclock, sleep between 3 and 5, eat banana chocolate and coffe/tea when you wake up!!...save energy for the actual momentWWW Best of luck! CL
2010-01-27 How long did it take you to learn the creston fantasy and how old were you when you performed it? andrew sanders USA I played it first time in 1994 just before I did the CD with Malmö Symphony Orchestra. I practiced it for 3 months CL
2010-01-27 If you were back in High school and it was your senior year and you needed to play a solo for a contest that you had 5 months to prepare what would you play? Amanda usa Mandrake in the Corner CL
2010-01-27 Also if you went back to your High school age with all the innovations and and new trombone methods how would you schedule a full day of practice and what would take priority? Thanks in advance, your an amazing music Idol. :) Amanda Usa I would practice 12 times 20 minutes. Wermup, scales slowly for intonation, legato studies, flexibility, Arban, Lafosse and solopieces CL
2010-01-27 Dear Christian, There are some airy sound at the beginning of almost every note I played, I tried some no tongue exercise, but still cannot get rid of this problem. I feel very sad, could you please give me some method to fix this? Best Wishes! Wangjia Wangjia Yu China Be patient!! rome was not buit on one day...keep the air going, and make sure it is there already in the beginning of the note!! Just practice this every day, and do not expect results until afre at least a couple of months!! Best of luck CL
2010-01-25 Dear Christian, I have heard that you used to play 16 hours per day, 8 for tenor trombone and 8 for alto trombone. Is that ture? All the Best ! Xian Shu U.S.A. No it is not true!! When I was 23 years old I practiced 8 hours a day, and some years I have been practicing 6 hours, but my average throughout the years have been 3-5 hours CL
2010-01-25 Mr,Lindberg, I have got a serious problem: double buzz. Especially in my middle range. Even when I buzzing mouthpiece. Help!! Andy UK I wish I could help...it sometimes has to do with too much pressure on the upper lip. CL
2010-01-25 Thank you for answering my question, but can you please help me understand how buzzing while playing and just buzzing on the mouthpiece are two different things and how just buzzing on the mouthpiece prevents your sound from improving? Kaiki Yamashiro USA When you buzz on the mouthpiece your lips are much tighter together, as there are less resistance. If you have the same embouchure when you buzz the moutpiece as on the instrument no sound comes out at all, so you are doing two completely different things. Immediately when I stopped buzzing the mouthpiece(25 years ago) my sound improved drastically! CL
2010-01-24 Hi mr. Christian. Could you recomend me a trombone between this conn trombones: 88h silver bell, 88h rose bell. i know that 88h yellow bell has a brassy sound. Also can you recommend me some other trombones for a classical trombonist? sotiris cyprus I think that the absolute best trombone is the CONN 88CLSGX lacker. I am not sure if it is yet publically for sale, but the more peole who ask for it the sooner it will get on the market. CL
2010-01-22 Hi, I was wondering how to increase someones endurance because and usually max out after maybe 3 hrs a day (even with breaks) is it just consistent and also how do I work on endurance/security in the really high register like for the Creston fantasy because I can hit all the notes and all but after a while I will get tired and it doesnt always sound easy when I play. Thank you in advance. roy just be patient, endurance comes with age the more you practice. It is completely natural to be tired after 3 hours per day. Just continue to push your limits, but never so much so that you become over exhausted CL
2010-01-22 Hi Christian, I use an Edwards trombone, do you think your moutphiece will suits this kind of instrument? It is hard for me to try your mouthpiece first, if it suits well, I will order one! All the Best!! ming Hongkong (China) It should absolutely fit an Edwards CL
2010-01-22 What do you think of practicing with the silent brass system, especially as a last resort because my neighbors always complain whenever I practice normally, would it affect my fundamental playing for the worse, or should I balance that with open playing? Steven Us It is better than not practicing, but you should make sure you practice open at least more than with the mute. CL
2010-01-21 Hi Christian, I want to buy your 4CL mouthpiece, just want to know whether the cup is deeper or shallower that a Bach 5G? John UK It is a different shape altogether...in the beginning it will probably feel shallower even if it is not...the rim is thinner, and once you got used to relax in the lip it will feel deeper, darker and much easer to play!! Best of luck!! CL
2010-01-21 Dear Christian, How to get a clear centered articulation? There are some airy sound at the beginning of the note that I played, will play with no tongue help? Thanks! Paul Hongkong Yes! You need to get the air going fast enough already from beginning of the note, and to practice without tongue helps that CL
2010-01-21 hello - can you help to direct me - my son is through to the final of the local shropshire concerto competition and is to play the grondahl trombone concerto. The organisers are struggling at this time to find the full orchestral score - do you know anywhere that this can be bought/hired - playing end of March 2010 - best, tim jones tim jones UK It is rental material, but unfortunately I do not know which publishing company...they would have to search the web CL
2010-01-20 Dear Mr. Lindberg, I was reading your post about how to improve my sound and you mentioned that you think buzzing is bad for the sound. I have learned that buzzing is a good method for building up your sound. How is buzzing harmful to your sound? Kaiki Yamashiro USA Yiou are actually doing two completely different things when you buzz and when you play. I experienced already at 23 that stop buzzing improved my sound. CL

2010-01-19 mr. lindberg i have a nice tone. i have plenty of room to improve it tho. i was wondering if there are any techniques that would tell me to greatly improve my tone. i wish i had a tone almost as good as yours or bill watrous. wondering if you could point me n the right direction though. i dont like buzzing on the mouthpiece and thats what everyone keeps telling me.thanks allan :) allan usa I never ever buzz mouthpiece, I think it is bad for the sound. The importan thing is to start from the middle register, F below tuning Bb, and build equally up and down, always caring about centering the sound. Flexibility is a very good thing for sound. Best of luck! CL
2010-01-19 Dear Christian, At the end of the third movement of Mandrake in the Corner, there is a sentence: 6656 5545 5534 3213, will you use the 4th and 5th positions for that? Best Wishes! Jimmy Jimmy China actually not...easier to get the notes to speak properly on original positions CL
2010-01-19 Hello Mr. Lindberg. I was wondering if you are aware of the exercise holding a pencil between your lips for strengthening the corners...what do you think of that? Also, what do you think of loud long tones for strengthening the face/lips? I really hope to hear from you. Michael U.S.A I guess neither of these two exercises are bad for you, but I think the best thing for strengthening lips are practicing cantabile excercises in the middle and top register. One can also do that from particularily tough slow concerto movements, like Martin Ballade(section up to the high D) or Gröndahl second movement. Another good thing for strength are Caruso exercises. CL
2010-01-19 Hi Christian, I think you wrote on your bolg before that you will use 4CL for your solo playing, so when you play something like the sencond movement of Grondahl Concerto, you will change to 5CL? Best,+ Taka Japan This can happen...Xenakis trombone concerto for instance, is a perfect example where I would use 5CL CL
2010-01-18 Hi Christian, I have a bit of cash to spare and would like to purchase a linderg mouthpiece but there is no way of trying one out in Australia. I play a bach 5g small shank on conn 100H. How does the cl10 compare for cup depth, backbore etc? The only dimension I can find is the cup width. Thanks, David. David Markham Australia I would think that a 10cl would fit fine with the conn 100H. CL
2010-01-17 Great memories from Dawn at Galamanta when I saw the TV programme yesterday. Tomas Sweden Absolutely!! It was very exciting to see the performance from the view of the audience CL
2010-01-16 Hello Mr. Lindberg! I have a question; I have listened to your recording of the Grondahl trombone concerto, especially movement 2! It is one of the prettiest things I have ever heard :D Do you remember what mouthpiece you used for the 2nd movement? Thanks! Jordan U.S.A. Thank you for this! I believe it was one of my first prototypes of my mouthpiece, probably identical to 5CL CL
2010-01-15 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VDF-dIXZWJU what a wonderful piece and video!! sounds excellent. Is this the original version? If not, who is arranged by? John U.K Thank you John!! My daughter Andrea Tarrodi and her husband Jens Lundberg-Tarrodi has done the arrangement! CL
2010-01-10 Hi Christian, I was told by my trombone teacher that the biggest problem with all trombone players is breathing problems. Is there any way to work on breathing problems? also the Romeo and Juliet suite for trombone and piano, is there any sheet music out for sale anywhere. I have been searching for awhile but I have not been able to find it. Hopefully 2010 treats you well, and hopefully you will be coming to the north east part of the united states some time soon! Robert Violette United States It is extremely good help to learn Yoga. The breathing and the simplest positions. Unfortunately Romeo and Juliet is unfortunately not published, Good luck with the breathing! CL
2010-01-08 Could I ask one more question? What do you think about when you play music? Will you use pictures or any other method to help your concentration? Thanks a lot!! Taka Japan I always try to think about how beatiful the music is!! Always positive thinking when you actually perform, and every mistake you make you have to leave behind immediately! CL
2010-01-07 Hello Mr.Lindberg, Could you tell me after how many times of practise then you can record a piece perfectly? I always feel very nervous when I record myself, does this happen to you? how to overcome that With my Best Wishes! Taka Japan As many times as possible! The moe you play a piece the better, always. It is quite a nervy thing to record, but just try to concentrate on the music, breath slowly, and save energy before, so that you can use it to overcome your difficulties. Best of luck CL
2010-01-06 mr. lindberg. hope you had a great new years celebratin:)i have been using your advice on the caruso. my sound has gotten much bigger and more body to it now. i am still having problems with opening my upper regtister. i have much control and endurance in my embouchure. my teeth are spread apart but my lips seem to close together in the middle. any advice? josh usa Just be patient!! Things do not happen ofer night, it can take years!! If, after you have done this for a while, lets say 1 or two years, you still can not get it, maybe you are destined for the bass trombone...but do not give up on the high register yet!! Good luck! CL
2010-01-06 Could you tell me what kind of believe or power push you to where you are? Why you always have new goals? You are the god of the trombone! Best Luck for 2010! Sandy Lu UK Actually, it is quite simple...I believed already when I was young, that the most esciting thing in life is challenges, and I have constantly become happy, and felt happiness while trying to solve problems. Once the problem is solved there is no fun any more, so you have to find a new problem to solve...this kept me going, kept me happy, and kept me being quite an OK musician.... CL

2009-12-26 Dear Christian, But you also recommended to study with Jonas Bylund in the past,.and do you think there are better job chances for students in Germany? Lance Li Hongkong Jonas is also a great teacher, so I think the best is to ask for a private lesson with both of them, and then see for yourself who you feel work best for you. As to chances in Germany or Stockholm I think they should be more or less the same. CL
2009-12-25 Dear Mr.Lindberg, Could you recommend some trombonists both good at playing and teaching? If you are a student now, whom you should choose to study with? Merry Christmas! Ayako,Japan Håkan Björkman in Stockholm CL

2009-12-23 Have you ever read books that deal with nerves like the Inner Game of Music or anything like that, if you have what would you recommend? Michaele use Yes, and I would recommend the book Flow CL
2009-12-23 How do/did you prepare for auditions, warm-up wise and the moment before? Andy U.S Short warm up and then save all energy so relax and stay calm CL

2009-12-22 Dear Chrisitan, What kind of mouthpiece you use when you play Mandrake in the Corner? Have a nice holiday!! Best Wishes!! Jimmy, China 4 CL CL

2009-12-22 Dear Christian, right in this moment I am listening to your new baroque trombone cd. It is very beautiful. Sometimes very soft and bright and another time very virtuose but all in all in a simple way... not overloaded... I am looking forward to seeing you in Germany... maybe with some kind of baroque music ;o).... keep going on your way! Ralf Freiberg Saxony. Ralf Germany Thank you so much for this Ralf! CL
2009-12-21 Hi, i have a recurring problem with my playing that happens and then goes away and comes back, like in 6 month periods or so, anyways while Im playing I have air that leaks through my nose and I dont know why, I know its not because im playing bad because i have been told im a fine player and have won competitions, just wondering if youve had this problem or do you think its just because of the weather (winter here), how should I fix this, doctors or medicine? Thanks in advance, I know your busy and all. Connor usa You should concentrate 20-30 minutes every day just to get rid of the air leaking. I have seen many players with this, and it is just to practice closing the back of the mouth properly!! Best of luck. CL
2009-12-16 Mr. Lindberg, do you ever play bass trombone? I know that your piece "Chickabone Checkout" involves alto, tenor, and bass trombones, and I know that some bass trombonists like to play tenor and alto occasionally, but do you think it is feasible for one to be constantly proficient on all three without sacrificing any technical aspects of each individual horn? Thank you for your thoughts! Nathan Musch U.S.A. I think you have to establish a solid empouchure on your main instrument before switchin between different instruments, but it is certainly possible, if you can put in enough time on all three instruments. Personally, I would love to have the time to learn the bass trombone, but unfortunately my composing and conducting career is consuming all extra time that I have when I am not practicing the tenor and alto. CL
2009-12-16 Hello, Mr. Lindberg. I hope everything is fine in this tough period of your schedule! Looking forward Recife Festival, waiting to see you. I hope we can talk and maybe hangout someday if you like/can. It will be great also, if I have the opportunity to see some of your rehearsals with orchestra. All the best! Pedro Henrique Brazil Thanks for coming to the rehearsals, it was fun to see you! CL
2009-12-15 Hello Mr. Lindberg. My name is Adrian, and I am wondering how you can start to learn how to trill. Are there any exercises I can do? Thanks a lot. Adrian USA You should do the lip slur exercizes in Arban CL
2009-12-15 When did you start doing caruso? Is it ever late to become better and better? I am always worried about that... When did you reach your pick of your trombone playing you think(playing wise)? Kyle- U.S.A I started to do Caruso when I was 32 years old, and I am still playing better and better, so I have not yet reached my peak. CL
2009-12-15 We want more videos of you!!! You are such an inspiration to all of us!! We love you!! Danilo Italy Thanks a lot!! I will think about that! CL
2009-12-15 Mr. Lindberg, first I just want to thank you for the inspiration you have given me as a player. I was wondering if you use slide vibrato or jaw vibrato while playing? Also are their some times when slide vibrato is better to use than jaw vibrato or vice-versa? Charlie U.S.A I mainly use lip vibrato, but sometimes slide vibrato in jazzy pieces, like Creston. CL
2009-12-15 hi its or thanks for every thing. how many hours a day shoud i practice on the (lip trill ,and every thing) a day. i have a remington mouthpiece and i think i need a new one becouse the shape of my mouth has changed (brases for the teeth) what mouthpiece do you think i should get? and if you do think of prufurming in israel that woud be great thanks or keller israel I would recommend a 4CL. Regarding practicing I would suggest 30 minute warmup, 30 minutes scales and legato, 30 minutes lip trills an flexibility, 30 minutes Arban and 30 minutes concertos CL
2009-12-14 hi my name is or keller i think you are a great trombonest i also play the trombone for 4 years now and iv been practicing on the lip trill and i still cant get it right do you have any tips and for what instrument is the romeo and juliet from the balley (on youtube) so i can get it thanks or keller israel Practice Arban, lip slur chapter and after a year or so practicing it every day you will master it. Good luck! Romeo and Juliet is something that Roland Pöntinen and I have arranged, but it is originally for orchestra CL
2009-12-14 hi its or are you planning to profurm in israel or keller israel at the moment nothing is planned for Israel CL
2009-12-14 What kind of Minnick mouthpiece you used before, is it like a schilke 51? Best Wishes! Mat,HK(China) It was just a mouthpiece that he had in the shop 26 years ago, but I only used it for one or two years. I already started to experiment with my own mouthpieces long time ago. CL
2009-12-13 hello Mr. Lindberg , you are so a great trombone player.... i have one question what is a good exercise for training your air? best wishes Lukas Lukas Germany Yoga!! Simple answer but very accurate!! Best of luck! CL
2009-12-12 Mr. Lindberg you are my favorite trombonist! when you do big jumps, for example for middle C to high C do you change the speed of air or your embouchure? Matt U.S This is exactly what happens, but the changes are so small that you almost do not notice it. the spedd of the air goes faster automatically when you create a smaller opening for the air between the lips. CL
2009-12-12 my teacher says that the most important thing is to buzz, if the lips buzz properly this is when you make a good sound, i am not very good at buzzing, what should I do? Cristian Mexico I personally never buzz, as I noticed that it made my sound less open. CL
2009-12-12 When I do caruso exercises should I focus on how it feels/ or how it sounds? focus on air? or just focus on time? and how long should I do it for. For some reason I could barely go to a high Eb when I do caruso, should I keep going up? Thank you! Matt U.S Do not worry about sound at all or how it feels! Just go until there is no sound at all. Be very caerful when doing this, only 10 minutes every second day is my advice. Also, do some low long notes afterwards. CL
2009-12-11 Is your first record available anywhere? the one before "the virtuoso trombone" Joe-U.S Unfortunately I don´t think so...you have to look on internet...the record label was Fermat. CL
2009-12-10 Have you ever thought about recording some modern trombone literature like the Malcom Arnold Fantasy for trombone or Richard Peaslees Arrows of Time, I would love to here your interpretation! Rhema usa I have actually recorded the Malcolm Arnold Fantasy on a vinyl record ages ago, in 1981 or something. Then there are of course thousands of other modern pieces that I have recorded, and you can find them under CD:s on my homepage, or if you go to www.bis.se CL
2009-12-10 A couple months ago my vibrato was great and it was very natural, but now its not as natural especially on the E and Eb above the staff, its still there but not as natural and I cant here it as much either, is there any way to get it back? Amanda usa I remember when I was young and had a very natural vibrato without thinking of it. Then when a teacher told me to practice it and control it I lost it totally. Better not to think of it, think about straight notes first, and then add your personal things to the sound, like vibrato, bendings, colourings etc. CL
2009-12-10 Can your sing pretty well, and what is the easiest way to learn how to sing, like is there any books or methods? joe uas I took some lessons from an opera singer. There are some great exercises that you can learn from any opera singer. CL
2009-12-09 How can you possibly trill so high?? I just heard Arabenne. Such a great piece! Do you have any tips of learning how to trill high? I can barely trill from high Bb to high C... Alex-U.S It is just a matter of practicing...Bb to C used to be difficult for me too...but IF you can trill there, you just try a little higher for a month....and a little higher for another month...and for some years...eventually you will get it!! Best of luck!! CL
2009-12-08 my tone is shaking if I play a long tone especially when I am nervous. What can I do to solve that problem? Ruben Peru You should practice Yoga! That will make you control your breath! Just buy a simple book about yoga and start. Good luck! CL
2009-12-06 You should record a euphonium cd!!!! Alan-U.S Thank you for this tip, I will think about it... CL
2009-12-05 Mr.Lindberg, you are my hero and the best trombone player in history. To me you are a genius and a superhuman. I was wondering if you ever worried if you get focal dystonia or any other lip problem from playing sooo much, the things you play-most of them are impossible and require lots of high playing and lots of loud playing. What is the secret to stay always strong? Juan-Spain The secret is to stay with the simple basics!! Everyday I do simple long notes and slurs, and that will always keep me from loosing my embouchure. Also, very important to stay focused and keep self confidence! CL
2009-11-30 Hello Mr Lindberg! Do you think about the decline of classical music in our modern, pop-driven society? Is it really an issue in Europe? I know you are a huge promoter of new compositions, but are there other ventures that you have undertaken to grow the classical music audience? Do you have any thoughts about the current, traditional classical concert? Do you think it needs to change? Sorry, but these questions are important for a paper I am writing about classical music in a post-classical society. You are the main ingredient in the paper and I would really appreciate your thoughts on the matter. By the way, I am a trombonist as well and I hugely admire your playing. But, it is your overall passion for music, which is evident in your playing, that has changed me. Thank you for all you have done. Orlando Ramirez USA Thank you so much Orlando for these kind words. I think it is extremely important to change the image of classical music. Changing the dresscode is one way, and also bring in more good quality, well written contemporary music is the key, and mix it with pieces of great interest, not only Beethoven, Mozart and Tchaikovsky. Also the marketing has to be fresh, and tell a younger audiences why they should bother to hear this kind of music. CL
2009-11-27 Interesting and informative. But will you write about this one more? comprar kamagra John San Vicente De Tagua Tagua Really, what you need to do is just to work hard in a relaxed way, and then enjoy the fact that you are learning something, and get joy out of just working!! Whart happens to your career is secondary, and in my case it was pure bonus that I was lucky enough to become so successful. Best of luck!! CL
2009-11-27 Hello mr: I want to ask a question about which type is this Joachim Pfretzschner Jnstr.-Bau-Meister Siebenbrunn Vogtl. thanks Wang Han China It is a German instrumentmaker. CL
2009-11-27 Dear Chrisitan, Will you push your stomach to keep air stable forward? When I under pressure, I feel very hard to feel the air, my body just locked. Could you give me some advices? Simon UK Do exactly the same as when youblow out a candle, everything else is unnatural! The brass tradition is full with confusing theories of how to use the diafragm etc. Most of these theories are creating problems rather than solving them. CL
2009-11-26 I am a trumpet I how to make the mouth become strong. I see a lot of trumpet players said the air is very important but in my opinion, the mouth is even more important than it. Wang Han China Air IS the most important thing. The mouthcorners should be firm and nolt the lip together, the rest is intelligent ways of practicing. There are several good studies for strength: Long notes, flexibility studies, Caruso etc. CL
2009-11-26 Mr. Lindberg, Is there a noticable difference between your mouthpieces when it comes to deciding whether you want it to be either silver or gold? JoeJoe US For me personally gold is smoother to the lip, so I prefer gold. Silver is OK, and some people even prefer the harder feeling from the rim with silver CL
2009-11-25 Do you ever show off, like show how fast you can tounge or how high you can get or did you do it before and what do you think about showing off in general? Carl USA Part of being an artist and a virtuoso is showing off, but it should never be a goal in itself, music always should come first!! CL
2009-11-25 HI! 2009-11-25 when you play legato passages, will you move your arm slightly earlier than your tongue? why I try very hard to sing and push the air forward, my sound is still with "egg"? :-( Taka,Japan No, the secret is to do it AXACTLY at the same time! And let the air flow through all the time, if it does not, that is why you get the "egg". CL
2009-11-24 Dear Christian, My teacher told me my articulation is not pure enough with airy sound especially in high range, but I really can not understand and feel the different tongue positions. How to improve that? Liming,HK Try to practice starting the note without tongue, ao that the air is properly supported. Then add the tongue but gently, the air is starting the not and the tongue should just collect the airstream. Goddluck CL

Or know someone that is willing to teach what they know onto a person like myself? please respond to this.
